A Fickert-type polishing line is the industrial workhorse for transforming rough-cut marble and granite slabs into glossy, finished surfaces. (1) The Continuous Polishing Process

Slabs are fed onto the conveyor belt and move through a series of polishing heads. Each head uses progressively finer abrasives, starting with coarse grinding to remove saw marks and ending with fine polishing to create a high gloss.

• Polishing Heads (Granite/Marble Grinding Head): Powered by 15kW motors, these heavy-duty units deliver the force needed to grind hard granite. The heads use Fickert abrasives, which are known for long life and uniform wear.
• Plate Shaped Monitoring Device: This system "reads" the slab's flatness in real time, automatically adjusting the pressure of each polishing head. It prevents over-grinding thin spots and ensures the entire surface is evenly polished.
• Cleaning Brush: Located at the end of the line, it scrubs away polishing residue and slurry, leaving the slab clean and ready for inspection or packaging.
• Automatic Lubrication System: Keeps the rails and moving parts oiled, reducing wear and tear and minimizing maintenance downtime.

1. Match the Abrasive Grit to the Stone: Start with coarser grits for granite to remove deep saw marks. Use finer grits for marble to avoid over-grinding.
2. Adjust Conveyor Speed: Run slower for a higher gloss finish or faster for rough grinding. Balance speed with the desired quality.
3. Maintain Water Flow: Sufficient water (20-30 m³/h) is critical to cool the abrasives, suppress dust, and carry away slurry.
4. Regularly Inspect the Monitoring System: Calibrate the plate shape sensor periodically to ensure it correctly adjusts the polishing head pressure.
